Project overview
My client needed help building an MVP for a property management platform, helping owners manage multiple properties and tenants through both mobile and web apps.
My role involved prioritizing features based on user needs and creating a seamless experience for both property owners and tenants. I also designed a new logo and built a welcoming webpage using Webflow.
Design challenge
The main challenge was creating an intuitive interface for two distinct user groups with different needs. Property owners needed comprehensive management tools for rent tracking, maintenance requests, tenant screening, and lease management. Tenants required simple access to payments, repair requests, and landlord communication.
I had to balance simplicity for non-technical users while maintaining robust functionality. Consistency across web and mobile platforms was crucial, and the tight MVP timeline demanded rapid iteration and fast communication.
Design approach
I started with discovery sessions to understand the client's vision, target users, and business goals. We explored pain points for both landlords and tenants, which shaped our user personas and journey mapping.
With these insights, I sketched initial wireframes focusing on dashboards, property listings, payment systems, and maintenance requests. My priority was keeping everything simple and accessible for users with varying technical skills.
High-fidelity designs
After wireframe approval, I created detailed mockups in Figma. I chose a modern, clean aesthetic with a calming color palette that felt professional without overwhelming users. I wove branding elements throughout the interface to maintain visual cohesion.
Building a design system
I built a comprehensive design system early to ensure consistency and streamline development. This covered typography, colors, buttons, forms, and responsive behaviors across all screen sizes. Accessibility was a core consideration throughout.
Key features
Tailored Dashboards: I created distinct dashboards for each user type. Property owners could monitor portfolio performance, manage leases, and track finances. Tenants got streamlined access to payments, maintenance requests, and landlord communication.
Responsive Design: The platform adapts seamlessly across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices. Since property management happens on the go, multi-device functionality was essential.
Intuitive Navigation: I simplified complex property management workflows with clear navigation, prominent action items, and visual cues that guide users effortlessly through the platform.
Outcome
The final design successfully met both client objectives and user needs, delivering a functional and visually appealing property management platform. The development team's positive response to the mockups enabled smooth implementation with minimal revisions needed.
