Creating an MVP for an investment web app
Background and problem statement
The client wanted to build a web app for option investing, and make the tool accessible for investors to invest safely and reduce volatility with defined strategies using machine learning algorithm.
The target audience were the people who have experience in financial investments, help them find a better investment strategy and save time.
My role was to create the user experience of the product and design an MVP to raise funding, without focusing too much on the UI part because the brand identity wasn’t defined at that moment.
Focusing on the user end goals
I started by focusing on the user end goals and write the user stories to outline the product functionalities from a user perspective, and also plan and estimate the effort better.
This method enabled us to think critically and find the best solutions for the user goals.
Organizing the information
Then I did a few rounds of information architecture to determine the right organization of content and flow for the users to find what they are looking for with the least amount of effort.
To support creating an intuitive user experience I created a task flow and made some iterations to it before proceeding to the structure and layout of the pages.
Moving on with the best possible solution
When I was creating the web app structure and layout I had 3 goals in mind that I wanted to achieve, display the technical information easy to scan and understand, create the feature to customize an outcome in an intuitive manner, and easily discover outcomes to invest in.
The first step to achieve that was to quickly create different variations of paper sketches to compare them and take what is best from each to create a new one.
Designing the final user interface
The main focus was on designing the main screens that integrated the core functionalities that the users need. This was an iterative process of doing, learning and improve based on the found information.
A beta website design and onboarding flow was done as well to deliver a well put together MVP to raise funding and speed up the development process.
